Picking Apples         

Another suitable job for kids is to pick apples. You can go to nearby apple orchards to ask whether they need helpers. If they need someone to pick apples, you can apply for it. No matter how old you are, you can do this job well, because fruit growers often choose to grow dwarf trees in their orchards, so even kids under 10 year old can reach the apples.

When you are walking into the orchard, you'll be attracted by so many fruit trees and apples. Even the air is filled with humidity and fruit fragrance. Before you start to pick, you should ask the farmer which are ripe. Then the farmer will give you woven bag and tell you how to pick apples. Don't pull apples forcedly, you only need to revolve the apples slowly, and they will fall down. Different types of apples have different colors (such as dark red, pink, cardinal red or dark green). If you couldn't distinguish by their colors, you'd better ask the farmer for help. Otherwise, if you pick immature ones by mistake, you'll make your employer angry. The farmer has rich experiences in growing fruit trees, and he can calculate the growing days and identify ripe ones. You can first pick bruised apples because they will easily go bad. Simultaneously, you should pay attention to the following problems:

1. If the apples are picked, don't drop them because they bruise easily. You must put them down carefully.

2. According to your employer's requirement, you can store the apples in cool place in order to keep them crisp and fresh.

3. Don't tear branches when you are picking.
